Friends of Holton St Peter
Holton St Peter Community School are celebrating the installation of their new trim trail equipment. The previous equipment, which was paid for by the PTA and installed over 25 years ago was showing its age and while safe, did not meet current, more stringent safety regulations. Mrs Righton, the previous Headteacher, wanted to see it replaced before her retirement in July and asked Friends of Holton for their support. The Friends led by Angela Pointer with Nicky Hyam as Treasurer took the project on. Following a successful grant application to Temporis Villages Fund who were most generous it was possible to progress the project. Plans were drawn up for a new trail, tenders received and installation was carried out over the summer holidays. The new bridge on the trail was paid for by customers of Edwards Restaurant who generously supported various fund raising events organised by Kevin and Karen Prime.
A further contribution came from the Jet shop at Hammonds in Halesworth who held a cake sale and raffle both of which were well supported by their customers and Holton parents. Adnams Community Fund, who had paid for the existing climbing wall many years ago also gave a grant which covered the cost of replacing the wooden posts which were beginning to have safety issues and so this piece of equipment has also been updated to modern standards. Staff and pupils at the school would like to thank all members of Friends – past and present for their hard work and commitment. On behalf of pupils, parents and staff at the school The Friends of Holton would like to thank everyone who supported all the associated fundraising events which have resulted in the next generation of pupils at Holton being able to continue to play safely for many years to come.
Now this project is completed Friends have moved on to organising a Christmas Fayre which will be held in the school hall on Friday 17th November from 3.30pm which will include a great selection of craft/gift stalls, children’s activities, refreshments, face painting, tombola and games. Anyone interested in booking a stall please look at the Friends of Holton Facebook page. Funds raised at this event will go towards Christmas activities and a trip to a pantomime in the New Year.
