Our House System
Our House system has now been running successfully for the last 4 years. All of the pupils across the school are allocated a house and are very keen to earn house points. These are earned individually but become part of our weekly total. They are given for academic achievement and outstanding quality work. In April 2017 we introduced a class dojo system in Kestrels and Red Kites which are linked to our new Growth Mindset initiative. This has enabled pupils to celebrate their achievement visually in class and see their individual total, as well as their houses ongoing total. It has been very motivating for our pupils.
At the end of each week, during our celebration assembly, the house point totals are revealed and the winning house receives the trophy with their coloured ribbons for that week.
The house point totals are reset every half term.
The 4 houses are:
- Alde – Mr Coote
- Blyth – Miss McGowan
- Orwell – Miss Chittock
- Waveney – Miss Jackson
At the start of each academic year, the pupils in each house vote for their House Captain.
House captains are responsible for the progress of their house during the year. They are there to encourage other pupils to produce excellent work, to try their hardest, to take responsibility for gaining house points and they also organise the other members of their houses during inter-house challenges.
As well as earning house points for academic work, children can earn extra house points throughout the year by taking part in our inter-house challenges.
In the past, the inter-house challenges have included
- Poetry Recital
- Construction challenges
- Fashion Show
Each Wednesday we have a house challenge where the pupils work in their house teams to complete the task. These range from memory tests, physical team-work challenges, penalty shoot-outs, quizzes, and countdown.
Sports Day is also now an inter-house event.
