Eagles Class (Years 1 & 2) Curriculum 2016-17
Summer Term Overview 2017
This term Eagles Class’ topic is “London – Now and Then.”
First half term will be focussed on present day London. We will be learning about our local area and comparing it to London.
The second half of the term we will be focussing on The Great Fire of London through our history based part of the topic. We will be researching and answering significant questions about the fire and learning how it affected London.
Throughout this topic we will be linking activities to curriculum areas such as History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Science, Music, R.E and PSHE.
We will be linking our literacy to our topic with a variety of picture books and texts. This will be a great stimulus for creative writing opportunities and writing for a purpose.
We will be covering a range of maths topics such as;
Addition and Subtraction
Multiplication and Division
Throughout the term, your child will be participating in cooking sessions led by Mrs Thompson and Mrs Holman. They will be cooking a savoury and sweet recipe and learning about where food comes from.
Your child will also have the fantastic Mr Knights for P.E every Wednesday, and also have an additional dance, gymnastics or athletics lesson with Miss Chittock.
You child will receive 5 spellings per week to learn and will be tested each Friday. These will be based on National Curriculum expectations.
Your child will also bring home a range of school reading books. Please ensure you read with your child daily to support your child with this valuable life skill.
Please ensure your child comes to school with a full water bottle and a healthy fruit or vegetable snack as learning is very hard work!
Thank you for your continued support.
